Our story
The reason Tika Pest Control was started is simple — a passion for protecting New Zealand's native bush, wildlife, and productive land.
Through years of working in conservation and remote backcountry environments, we have seen firsthand the impact that unmanaged pest animal populations can have on our natural ecosystems. The browse pressure caused by deer, goats, possums, and pigs can severely damage native vegetation, prevent forest regeneration, and threaten the long-term health of our bush. We've also witnessed the devastating effects pest animals can have on native wildlife and their habitats.
Seeing this level of damage reinforced our belief that something needed to be done. We wanted to be part of the solution and make a meaningful difference for landowners, farmers, forestry companies, and conservation groups working hard to protect and restore their land.
That passion is what led to the creation of Tika Pest Control. Our goal is to deliver professional, effective, and responsible pest management services that help reduce pest pressure, protect native ecosystems, and support the long-term health of New Zealand's environment.

Our Team
Maika Reid
My passion for pest management and conservation comes from years of hands-on work in New Zealand's rural and backcountry environments. I hold a Level 4 Certificate in Conservation, with training in pest monitoring and trapping, chainsaw operation, quad bike and utility vehicle (LUV) operation, and comprehensive bush first aid.
I spent time in the South Island backcountry with the Department of Conservation, working an 8-days-on, 6-days-off roster in remote locations. The role involved extensive solo work, helicopter operations, machinery use, and operating safely in challenging terrain. More recently I have worked on wallaby surveillance using trained dogs, which demanded strong bush navigation, self-reliance, and confidence working alone, along with valuable experience handling working dogs and reading pest animal behaviour in the field.
These experiences shape the values behind Tika Pest Control: professionalism, safety, reliability, and effective pest management. Whether it is possums, rabbits, goats, deer, or other pest species, I am committed to giving landowners, farmers, forestry managers, and conservation groups practical, humane, and environmentally responsible solutions that deliver real results, and to helping protect New Zealand's productive land and native ecosystems for future generations.

With a background in conservation and extensive experience working in rural environments, I bring a strong understanding of pest impacts, land management, and environmental protection. Alongside operating Tika Pest Control, I work in the dairy industry in Rotorua, where reliability, resilience, and practical problem-solving are essential every day.
As a business owner, I’m committed to providing professional, honest, and effective pest management services that deliver real results. Whether we’re working with farmers, lifestyle block owners, businesses, or conservation projects, my focus is on building long-term relationships through quality workmanship, clear communication, and a genuine commitment to protecting New Zealand’s unique environment. I believe successful pest control is about more than removing pests—it’s about safeguarding livelihoods, native species, and the future of the land we all depend on.
